Centela Privacy Policy

In short: Centela analyses messages, links, numbers and screenshots inside your phone. We never send your messages, SMS, contacts or personal data to any server. There are no user accounts. We don't sell data. We show no ads and use no trackers.

Community protection network (optional)

To protect one another, Centela can share anonymous signals about scams. By default, none of your content is shared. There are three options: (1) Scam type (on by default): when a scam is detected, only a type label is sent (e.g. "phishing" or "parcel delivery") and whether it had a link — without your message, without your number, without a fingerprint and without identity —, so we can see what's going around. (2) Fingerprint votes (off by default): an anonymously signed vote when you flag a message as a scam or not, with no content. (3) Scam text (off by default): the text of messages clearly identified as scams (with a link or social engineering), to learn and warn others. Your normal conversations, your contacts, your number and your identity are never shared. Identity is an anonymous key (there are no user accounts). You can turn each option on or off whenever you like under Protection → Collective network.

Who we are

Centela is an independently developed anti-fraud app for Android. No sign-up or account is required. For any privacy question, write to

Our principle: everything happens on your device

Analysis of messages, links, phone numbers and image text happens entirely on your phone. Centela has no servers storing your data and there is no user account. What stays on your phone, stays on your phone.

Data we do NOT collect

  • We don't send your messages, conversations, contacts or your number to any server. By default we only send, anonymously, the type of scam detected (without your message or your number); sharing more (votes or the text of clear scams) is optional and you turn it on yourself.
  • We don't access or upload your contacts.
  • We don't collect your location, identity or activity.
  • We use no third-party ads or trackers.
  • We build no profiles and sell no information.

What Centela processes (locally)

To protect you, Centela examines on your device: text you paste or share, your SMS (if you grant permission), messaging-app notifications, the number of incoming calls, and the text of screenshots or photos you choose (OCR). This processing is temporary and local; it is not transmitted.

Permissions we request and why

  • Read SMS: check your past SMS for fraud only on your phone. Content never leaves the device.

Internet connections

Centela uses the Internet to download to your phone: known-fraud lists, app updates and, on capable phones, the optional AI model. These are downloads; no data of yours is uploaded.

Number reputation

What is stored on your device

Centela keeps a local history of your analyses to avoid repeating warnings and to improve. For privacy it stores a fingerprint (hash) and a short preview, not the full text. This data lives on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall. You can also clear the history from within the app.

No ads, no trackers

Centela contains no ads, ad SDKs, tracking beacons or third-party analytics. No one pays us for your data, because we don't collect it.

Children and all ages

Centela is designed to protect people of any age from fraud and collects no personal data, so it is suitable for everyone, including children and older adults.

Your rights (GDPR)

Because Centela stores no personal data of yours on any server, you are in full control: your data lives only on your device. You can exercise your rights of access, rectification and erasure immediately by clearing the history in the app or uninstalling it. If in doubt, contact

Security

Local analysis minimises exposure of your data. Downloads use an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and their integrity is verified. The app checks its own signature to detect tampered copies.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and its date. Material changes will be reflected here.
